P’Cola – The Place to Be…
Quote for Today: May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, May good luck pursue you each morning and night. ~Irish Blessing
This past weekend we had an awesome time at the Pensacola Crawfish Festival, taken our naps, and were ready for more. Along with the Naval Air Station, the oldest settlement in America is also famous for McGuire’s Irish Pub. Since 1977, it has been a mainstay, not only for the armed forces, but for locals and tourists alike. Molly, one of the original waitresses tacked her first $1 tip to the wall and signed it, today there are more than one million signed $1 bills on the walls and ceilings. Touted as one of America’s great steak houses, the pub has been in its current location at the Old Firehouse since 1982. This classic Irish Pub does a bang-up business.
McGuire’s Irish Pub – Pensacola, Florida
We arrived at six o’clock this past Sunday and had a hard time finding a parking space. After walking a quarter mile to the entrance, a jovial crowd of fifty or so were patiently waiting outside to be seated. CJ took one of our business cards to the hostess and we were seated in seconds. This has never happened to me before! CJ just winked at me and said, “we have some clout.” The noise level was high and the traffic flowing through the restaurant was immense.
Irish Bleu Chips
We placed our order and in a couple of minutes the homemade bread along with our Irish Bleu Chips arrived. We should have just gotten the chips, I have no idea how they can put literally 3/4 of a pound of blue cheese on homemade chips, drizzled with a delicious homemade dressing for just $7.99. Needless to say, the portion was huge and I am munching on them again as I write.
The four hundred seat restaurant was on a long wait and being a chef/babysitter/janitor, I was glad to not be in charge. Our entrees arrived and CJ’s peppercorn steak was a little over medium, but I personally enjoyed it. My steak and mushroom pie was nothing to write home about but given the volume of customers, a slightly underdone crust is not the end of the world.
The staff was attentive and doing their best to keep a large mob happy. CJ and I want to return again on a night when multiple parties of twenty don’t dominate the venue. Whoever is in complete control of this place does a great job.
Pensacola Beach Florida
We were completely overwhelmed with the City of Pensacola and the beautiful beaches. We quickly agreed it would be a great place to hang your hat.
