It’s National Frozen Food Day
and a reminder that there are some delicious choices in the frozen food sections at our local grocery stores. After a long day with the kids or a 12 hour day cooking for customers, it’s nice to be able to look inside the freezer for something quick and easy to prepare. Here are the top five items
that put a smile on my face when I rummage through the coldest part of the ice-box.
A) Home Run Inn Pizza – I know it is one of the lesser known brands out of Chicago, but if you can get your hands on one, give them a try. The crust, cheese, and toppings are all top-notch. The sauce could use a little seasoning, but a great pizza none the less.
B) Ajinomoto Shumai
– These tiny dumplings are great to have on hand when you are in a hurry. Ten minutes in a steamer and they are good to go. While they are steaming go through the fridge and concoct a sauce. These are great with practically anything you might come up with.
C) Stouffer’s Welsh Rarebit
– Another great product that doesn’t take long to go from freezer to table. This aged cheddar sauce compliments turkey, chicken, beef or pork, especially if served as an open faced sandwich.
D) Santa’s White Christmas Ice Cream – Although this is a limited edition of Publix brand ice cream, I have found it on the freezer shelves in late July. This blend of coffee ice cream with chunks of chocolate espresso doesn’t stay in your home freezer very long.
E) Trader Joe’s Chipotle Ranch French Fries
– The Chipotle Ranch is a BBQ Sauce that is separate from the fries. I like to keep it that way. Whether you bake them in the oven or deep fry them, they are classic fries that come out crisp and brown.
