Quote of the Day: You’ve Got Mail (1998)

Joe Fox (Tom Hanks): The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, et cetera. So people who don’t know what the hell they’re doing, or who on earth they are, can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino

The Origin of Cappuccino

“The word ‘Cappuccino’ in its Italian form is not known in Italian writings until the 20th century, but the German language ‘Kapuziner’ is mentioned as a coffee beverage in the 18th century in Austria, and is described as ‘coffee with sugar, egg yolks, and cream’ in dictionary entries from 1800 onwards. “Kapuziner” was by the First World War a common coffee drink in cafés in the parts of northern Italy which at that time still belonged to Austria.” Wikipedia

How To Make Cappuccino At Home

Homemade Cappuccino Recipe

The basic make-up of a cappuccino is roughly 1/3 coffee, 1/3 hot milk, and 1/3 frothed/foamed milk but you may also hear people ask for a dry cappuccino (more froth) or a wet cappuccino (less froth).

First, steam the milk. Heat 1 cup of milk in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat.

Next, whip the milk with an electric mixer, increasing the speed as the milk begins to thicken. Add sugar (Tsp) as needed and continue mixing until you get the desired volume of froth.

Now, make the coffee.

Now, make the cappuccino!
